Alongside your internship, you will take Spanish classes and participate in cultural activities that help you connect more deeply with life in Barcelona.

Sophie joined our Internship Pathway with a strong interest in biological engineering and hands-on research experience. During her time in Barcelona, she completed a full-time internship at IBEC, gaining real-world technical experience while building the professional skills needed for future academic and career goals. Her experience included:

Fabricating “organ-on-a-chip” layers and microfluidics in PMMA
Redesigning structure using 3D resin printed molds for PDMS
Developing new organ component for product in vitro testing solution
Being invited to return to continue internship
Participating in a Hackathon to win a grant for a project in biological engineering
Her team won and received funding for their project the following Spring in Barcelona
