Use Your 529 Plan and Earn College Credit in Spain

As a Gap Year Association (GYA) accredited provider, Spanish Gap Year offers participants the opportunity to earn college credits through GYA’s School of Record relationship with the University of Montana (UM). This collaboration allows students to gain academic recognition for their immersive experiences in Spain. This means you can enjoy your gap year while also earning credits without the need for online classes or other academic interruptions during the program. The registration process for college credits is handled entirely through our team, ensuring a seamless experience.

How to Use Your 529 Plan for Your Spanish Gap Year Program

Please note that every 529 College Savings Plan is different. While most plans allow funds to be used for accredited programs like ours, we recommend contacting your plan provider to confirm that your specific plan supports this use. This ensures a smooth process and helps you make the most of your 529 funds.

Additional Information

  • If you have a deferred place at a college or are planning to attend a specific institution in the future, it is essential to check with the college to ensure that the credits earned through our program will be transferable. Credit transfer policies vary between institutions, so verifying this in advance will help you make an informed decision.
  • Please note there is an additional flat fee of $1,950 for participation in the college credit program with UM, regardless of the number of credits earned.

  • Students will not receive a tuition statement form (Form 1098-T) for these credits. Instead, it is recommended to retain proof of payment to Spanish Gap Year and documentation of your University of Montana enrollment, such as a student ID number and official transcripts.
